Are you craving a challenge to get you through February while we wait for the world to open up?
To complete this Treasure Hunt, you will commit to cycling 300km during the month of February and collecting 15 of more than 40 “treasures” listed below.
Get on your bike and explore new places in Singapore!
Click on the Routes tab in the main menu and find somewhere new to cycle! Within the routes you will find nearly all of the “treasures” listed below to collect along the way.
Challenge Period: Saturday, February 1st thru Sunday, February 28th
Location: Anywhere in Singapore
Registration Ends: February 20th
Track your kilometres: Join Strava’s Bike-a-Local Club. Once you begin cycling in February, Strava will automatically tabulate your distance. You can see your progress by clicking on the challenge leaderboard to see how you’re doing with other BaL Club members.
Track your treasures: You will need to take a picture of each of your treasures with the BaL logo (t-shirt, sticker or image pulled up on your phone). Label it with the treasure name and post it to Bike-a-Local Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CycleAroundSingapore/ with the hashtag #BaLTreasureHunt. We will then collate those into a page we will share with you. If you are not on Facebook, no worries. Email your pictures of the treasure(s) to the bikealocalrobin@gmail.com and we will include them in the tabulation for you.
Fee: $25 Receive 1 Dri-Fit BaL T-shirt and 3 BaL stickers. These will be useful when taking a picture of the treasure with the logo. Put the sticker on a water-bottle or helmet or anywhere else that makes sense and will be handy-get creative!
**(SP) secret pedals: denotes Secrets from the new book Secret Singapore by Heidi Sarna and Jerome Lim, available April 2021. Follow @secretsingaporethebook on Instagram for information on pre-ordering.
Complete the treasure hunt and receive the satisfaction that you cycled all over Singapore and have the “treasures” to prove it!
The first participant to cycle 300 km and collect 15 treasures will win a copy of the new book Secret Singapore when it releases in April!

Nuts and bolts. Instructions
If you are NOT on Strava and Facebook/ Instagram, please let us know and we will sort out another way to keep track of your accrued kilometres and treasures.
If you ARE on Strava, please join the Bike-a-Local Club. We can keep track of your cycling activity there. (The free version of Strava will work for this, you do not need an upgrade.)
You will be receiving your T-shirt and stickers by the end of the first week of February. If you are riding with a friend and want to ‘tag’ a treasure before you receive the t-shirt/stickers, have them pull up the BaL image on their phone (WhatsApp chat icon) and you can take a picture. All treasures need to have the BaL logo in the image.
When you take a picture of a treasure with the BaL logo, you will need to post it to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #BaLTreasureHunt. Be sure to tag @Bike-a-Local Singapore (FB) or @SecretPedals (IG). This is how we will see the treasures you have accrued and log them onto the leaderboard.
Because you have signed up for the Treasure Hunt, ALL BaL routes are 50% off for you. Check out the route you’d like to take, scroll to the bottom of the page, fill out the form, but don’t pay until later. I will get a notification that you filled out the form, and then I will share the ride links with you; then you can send payment ($4 per route). I ask that you do not share the links with anyone, but feel free to let people know about the website.
We will be creating a Google Sheet (Leaderboard) to be shared with all TH participants. We will update it every 3-4 days. Your treasures and kilometres will be shown there. The first one to cycle 300km and collect 15 treasures will win Heidi Sarna’s book Secret Singapore. (IG page linked here.)
Last but not least, communication about the TH will be done through a WhatsApp chat group that will be created shortly. Please feel free to ask any questions, share any helpful hints for each other and since I’d love to see this as a collaborative challenge, it will be fun to hear you tell each other how to get to these various places, how you would describe them and how you experience them.
Please ask any questions at all. I am all in for feedback and tips, comments, and curiosities.
